I'm proud to be the first-ever elementary teacher accepted into the Mathematics Education Doctoral program at Simon Fraser University. My PhD thesis focused on tension in implementing a Building Thinking Classroom (BTC) and was a culmination of my experience in BTC. I have led numerous BTC workshops in Canada and the US and have collaborated with Peter Liljedahl on many research projects involving BTC. I have been part of BTC’s evolution from its initial conception many years ago to the robust practices it comprises today. I continue to utilize its practices in my elementary and post-secondary teaching, as well as through my work with the Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival. My passion is to share the joy and wonder that is possible in the teaching and learning of mathematics, yet so seldom experienced.
